What is the pitch of a compression spring?

The pitch of a compression spring is the distance measured between the centres of two coils

Pitch is always measured from wire centre to wire centre of two adjacent coils. The distance is measured parallel with the length axis. The simplest method is to measure the gap between the coils, and then add 1 x the wire thickness.

Pitch - compression spring

Please note that the pitch must never exceed the outside diameter of the compression spring, as this will result in winding difficulties in production. The greatest pitch we recommend is 0.7 * inside diameter.

A greater pitch than this can only be offered by special agreement, and then only if it is actually possible to produce it. The pitch has an impact on the expansion of the spring when it is compressed. Few coils big expansion, many coils smaller expansion.
